‘Critical Mass’ is the second iteration of Ghana Must Go; it intends to fortify the programmes ambition of being a catalyst for ‘critical redefinitions, experimentation and innovation’. Nubuke Foundation presents a free co-working space for 40 talented thinkers open daily from 3rd October – 24th November 2017, 9am – 5pm (inc weekends).
2017 Applications are now closed. 2018 applications will open later this year – See Ghana Must Go: Forward
Artists should be willing to liberate and articulate their vision of the future and create projects that are equipped to shift the perceptions, attitudes, and actions of the cultures they are embedded within. To encourage this, ‘Critical Mass’ will begin as a coworking space from Oct 3rd – 24th Nov 2017 to cultivate the talent that we will solicit applications from for the 2018 open call. Instead of one artist, the spotlight will be given to a collaborative multidisciplinary collective who will be expected to offer peer support in addition to receiving individual support.
The lessons learnt from ‘Ablode – Future Vitality’ have made Ghana Must Go realize the importance of additional support (artistic and pastoral), structure, involvement, and accountability to encourage the development and discipline of emerging artists. In turn, we intend to cultivate artists to develop their practice and deliver.
‘Critical Mass’ is still an open call to ‘all innovative, creative ‘thinkers’ and ‘doers’ [living and working in Ghana] whose thoughts and actions are of relevance to the future of our society’. It aims to provide an incubator and co-working space that is affordable, accessible, available and opens a channel for intergenerational and interdisciplinary networks. We intend to provide meeting rooms, quiet room(s), Nubuke library access, discounted lunch courtesy of Dandelion foods, affordable snacks, drinks (all subject to sponsorship) and a programme of advice and expertise. In addition to invited speakers, there will be roundtable talks for the individuals selected to use the coworking space.
Our target demographic is thirty to forty 22-35-year-olds who are freelancers, (recent to seven years since) graduates, self-taught artists, performing and visual artists, entrepreneurs, practitioners, producers and creative facilitators throughout the two-month period. We would also like to promote collaborations between older, established artists to encourage intergenerational partnerships.
We will document the incubator/coworking space, and we would like a resident filmmaker to archive and promote the programme via for social media.
